I picked these up a while ago and forgot to give them away, so now is the perfect time, just before Christmas. And because I finally remembered that I had them. Look, when you’re my age, remembering to get the kids to their correct respective school in the morning is usually a giant test of my memory capabilities. I am sure that one morning, I am going to shove my 3 year old out the van door at the elementary school and tell her I’ll see her at 3:30 and proceed to take my 5 year old to preschool.Today could even be that day!
I digress as usual. So in order to win, and I’ll use a number generator web thingy to choose the number for the winners, comment below with your favorite square. Easy. And friends and family are not excluded, since I am sure you are the only ones reading the blog anyways.
And I’ll give everyone until Wednesday night at 6 my time, erm, which is mountain standard time? Right? Oh my lord, seriously, it’s too early to be posting a contest when I haven’t even finished my coffee.
I’ll start even though I can’t win. My absolute favorite square is the Confetti Bars. It reminds me of my grandma, she used to make them all the time, and every summer that I visited her farm, I would have them. In fact, this whole book reminds me of her, so it’s a very happy thing, she was the dainties queen.

Nanaimo bars. I find it really odd they are a regional thing too. Why?!? How?!? They are so yummy! I am baking for gifts again this year so you will probably get some, if I don’t eat them all myself.
My favorite squares are a date-walnut-coconut bar which comes out more like a fudge than a cookie bar. Very little flour but lots of brown sugar, dates, walnuts and coconut. Sometimes I subsitute pecans for the walnuts for a change of taste. This goes together very quickly, and they disappear almost as fast after they are baked!
Well…..I would have to say my most favorite square is…….drum roll……NANAIMO BAR with the yellow middle. Not the green minty middle. I love love love these sooooooooooo much. Cause who doesn’t love chocolate. And, these are ohh soooo chocolately.
My favorite square would have to be the buttermilk brownies that I bake quite often for my coworkers. They just love them and can’t get enough of them!
Actually, one of my coworkers is Mary-Anne, I think she is your cousin? I’m not sure, but she is the one that told me about your blog and I’m glad that she did. I enjoy your site and your recipes. Keep up the good work!!
I remember those Confetti Bars. Aunt Nel and Doree also made them a lot. As a child they were one of my favorites. I so remember going to Dauphin for summer holidays and all you did was eat all day long.
By the way, Pauline brings in a lot of baking for us at work. Everything she bakes is awesome. Her brownies are my favorite of all the baking she brings in. ….you can’t just have one.
That book looks wonderful and I absolutely love a good lemon bar! I love pretty much any bar cookie because they are easier to make than cookies!
I love lemon bars and blondies!
My favorite bar is this simple peanut butter chocolate chip brownie. The hubby especially likes them too!
Seven Layer Bars are sinful decadence. Rich and sweet. They’ve always been my favorite!
My favorite new bar is a Smore Bar – soooo Gooood! I am always up for a new bar idea!
I love lemon bars and 7 layer bars but, when I can’t be with the one I love, I love the one I’m with. I can’t see saying “no” to a blondie because it wasn’t a lemon bar.
Pumpkin pie bars are pretty delicious, as are lemon bars and brownies
Lemon bars are my absolute fav. I’ve never seen them with icing but I like the idea of extra lemon; in fact, I always use an extra 1/3 cup, add a Tbsp of zest and then double the filling. Every time I make them I swear I’m just making the filling next time and eating it out of a bowl… by MYSELF before anyone gets wise to me.
Believe it or not, I was set up to make lemon bars after I took a tour through Tastespotting and there was that lucious recipe for lemon bars and there were all the ingredients right on my kitchen counter. So. Lemon Bars with frosting, here I come.
My favorite bar is recent, it’s a Cranberry Streusel Bar. It’s on my blog: http://themerlinmenu.blogspot.com/2008/12/cranberry-streusel-shortbread-bars.html
But I AM going to make your lemon bars, they look delicious.
Good Blog, too….
Pumpkin Pie Bars by far! Although I am definitely now making those lemon bars because my mouth is watering and it looks so easy.
Hmmmmm…. Those lemon bars sound delicious! Have to admit I like Rice Krispie squares. Fast and yummy. : )
Found your site while exploring “stumbleupon”. Glad I did!
Cheers
I make these red velvet cheesecake bars… They are divine!!!!
My favorite bars are Caramel Cashew Bars. I love salt and caramel and cashews and this one is easy…too easy! I’m looking forward to making these Lemon Bars this weekend with my kids. They look so easy that they should be able to make batches 2 through …. lol. Thanks for the nice blog and the very generous offer.
I love love love tart-sweet-fresh-citrus-y lemon bars! when i saw the post about lemon bars, i knew i had to make some soon! and some good fudgy-on-the-inside-but-slightly-crispy-on-top brownies are nice too. and oatmeal bars. and cheesecake cut into bars are also a rich treat.
Nanaimo Bars!! I haven’t had them since moving to Texas 14 years ago!
My favorites ARE lemon bars–always have been. I’m still searching for the perfect recipe and I must try yours.
Thanks for the chance to win!
Lemon. I love anything lemon!
I’m so glad I stumbled over your blog. Since I LOVE lemon and am sometimes disappointed at how unlemony some lemon things are, I can’t wait to make your iced lemon squares. My favorite bars so far are Almond Iced Raspberry Oatmeal bars, they never last very long when I make them. But it seems that’s all ever make now. I would love a new recipe to impress everyone.
I’m another Canadian transplant who misses Nanaimo bars! I make a reasonable version but it’s not the same as just being able to pick them up in the store! I also miss Jean Pare cookbooks
